Population & Reproductive Rights

Reproductive rights are the cornerstone of women’s health and independence. These include the right to voluntary marriage; the right to determine the timing, number and spacing of children; and freedom from sexual violence and coercion. Women in the U.S. and around the world encounter numerous obstacles to making fully informed reproductive choices, including lack of information and access to comprehensive services, prohibitive costs, cultural and societal taboos and customs, and poorly trained or ideologically compromised healthcare providers. Many of our member centers are conducting research, disseminating information and raising awareness about women’s health and health policy issues.

Statement of Cecile Richards, President of PPFA on the Executive Order of the President on Abortion and Health Care Reform

"We regret that a pro-choice president of a pro-choice nation was forced to sign an Executive Order that further codifies the proposed anti-choice language in the health care reform bill, originally proposed by Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska.  What the president’s Executive Order did not do is include the complete and total ban on private health insurance coverage for abortion that Congressman Bart Stupak (D–MI) had insisted upon. So while we regret that this proposed Executive Order has given the imprimatur of the president to Senator Nelson’s language, we are grateful that it does not include the Stupak abortion ban."

Special Interview with Jane Roberts on International Women's Day

March 12, 2010 posted by admin

Jane Roberts, the woman behind 34 million friends of UNFPA, gave a special interview on Chicago Public Radio for International Women's Day. "Gender inequality is the moral scourge of the age," said Roberts. Due to gendercide, sex-selective abortion, and other human rights atrocities, there are 100 million missing girls in the world.
