Director of Development
National Council for Research on Women

The National Council for Research on Women (NCRW), a consortium of 95 of the leading US-based women’s research and policy centers, is seeking a Director of Development. Founded in 1981, the Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a community of researchers, activists, and policy-makers who work for the full participation of women and girls in all aspects of society. NCRW is committed to using research as a tool for positive social change and to influencing public thinking and debate. The Council’s work includes synthesizing cutting edge research, producing publications and research reports, and convening national and local forums and media events.

In addition to its member centers, NCRW includes an active Corporate Circle, a Presidents Circle (which includes presidents of colleges and universities), an international network of research centers and scholars, and more than 3,000 individual and organizational affiliates. NCRW is accredited as a Non Governmental Organization by the United Nations.

In the past three years, the Council staff and Board created and implemented an initial development plan designed to diversify its funding base and increase overall revenues. In early 2001, with the support of the Ford Foundation, the Council undertook a strategic business planning process, which has resulted in an overall plan to further strengthen NCRW’s financial base. NCRW’s new Development Director will help guide its implementation and bring expertise and energy to our development efforts.

The position of Director of Development requires a candidate with at least five years of experience and:

-- leadership experience in individual fundraising, including major donor, planned giving, and endowment campaigns;

-- the ability to help shape and implement a diversified fund-raising program for the Council;

-- knowledge of foundation and corporate fundraising;

-- experience in personnel supervision;

-- strong oral and written communication skills;

-- willingness to do hands-on work;

-- a good sense of humor;

-- and a strong commitment to the advancement of women and girls in society.

The Director of Development will be part of a management team made up of the Executive Director, the Director of Finance and Administration, the Director of Programming (to be hired), and will work closely with the Board of Directors.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Please send resumes to the National Council for Research on Women, 11 Hanover Square, 20th Floor, New York, NY 10005. An Equal Opportunity Employer
