Women's Social Policy & Research Center, Vanderbilt University (W-SPARC)
http://www.sitemason.vanderbilt.edu/wsparc

W-SPARC has conducted a number of studies on taxes and other issues important to women's economic security. In two studies, Tax Reform and Tennessee Households: A Distributional Impact Analysis and Footing the Bill: Women and Tax Reform in Tennessee, W-SPARC looked at the potential impact on Tennessee women and households of tax change scenarios under consideration by the state legislature, relative to the impact of the status quo sales tax system. The results of both studies show the disproportionate tax bill that Tennessee women pay, and illustrate the need for a progressive state income tax, elimination of the tax on groceries, and a state Earned Income Tax Credit. W-SPARC is currently working on Women, Minorities and Federal Income Taxes, an analysis of the distributional impact of the federal tax system on women and minorities, with Professor Beverly Moran of Vanderbilt Law School. Other W-SPARC projects related to women's economic security include studies on the gender composition of corporate leadership in Tennessee's public companies, immigrant women and work in Tennessee, scholarships and other resources for Tennessee women, and the impact on women of health insurance loss and healthcare reforms in Tennessee.
