State of the Union: Will Obama Deliver for Women?

President Obama is all set to deliver his first State of the Union address this evening at 9pm EST. The question on my mind is will he cover issues that matter most to women? This is a President who started his term by signing into law the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (although the Paycheck Fairness Act was subsequently sidelined and forgotten, leaving the job half-done).
According to news reports, Obama is slated to address job creation, the economic crisis, health care reform, and even Don't Ask, Don't Tell. These are ALL issues where women's voices and concerns are vital. Remember "shovel ready" jobs? Or the Stupak-Pitts amendment? Women's economic and physical well-being have been at the center of key policy debates this year. Will this be recognized in the President's address tonight? Will he talk about the Violence Against Women Act and the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act--legislation essential to ending gender-based violence--as organizations such as Break the Cycle and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence have asked?
