NCRW and AmEx Foundation Welcome 2nd Cohort of Fellows, Building the Next Generation of Women Leaders in the Nonprofit Sector

On Tuesday, January 8^th, 2013, NCRW/AmEx Fellowship Program “Building the Next Generation of Women Leaders in the Nonprofit Sector” launched its second cohort of fellows at the NYU Wagner School of Public Service in New York City.  The Fellows spent the day training, exploring, and networking.  Session were facilitated by women leaders Gloria Thomas, Director of the Center for Education of Women at the University of Michigan; Jan Brown, who is the Founder and Board Chair of PowWow: A Network for Women Making a Difference and a certified Life and Career coach; Jen Schenkel, Life and Career Coach; and Toni Harris, Director of Career Services and Alumni Relations at NYU Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service.  They led workshops about leadership, career planning, networking and negotiating. 

Fellows spent the day digging deep into themselves to find out more about their values, skills, strengths, and areas of improvement.  By doing so together, they laid the foundation for a strong, supportive network with women in their field.   “This is a wonderful program and I’ve had nothing short of great experiences since my involvement,” says one Fellow.  After the event another Fellow shared that she “walked away feeling empowered… by my cohort and the great work we’re all doing, and the enthusiasm to support and uplift my colleagues and other women in their advancement.”  We would like to thank our host NYU Wagner School for Public Service, and our sponsor, the American Express Foundation for their support of this program.  Stay tuned for our next session about Career Planning led by Jen Schenkel on February 6, 2013.
