Submitted by lclark@ncrw.org on Fri, 10/28/2011 - 4:58pm
In case you missed it…
A major conference was held at Hunter College in New York to mark the 20th anniversary of Anita Hill’s historic testimony during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings: Sex, Power and Speaking Truth: Anita Hill 20 Years Later. The conference brought together three generations of activists, scholars, and leaders to celebrate one woman’s courage to speak the truth when most politicians and the public chose to ignore her or attack her integrity and character.
Anita Hill was the honoree and keynote speaker, and the highlight of a day filled with insightful analysis, commentary, and commemoration. The conference concluded with a special evening performance: “Speaking Truth to Power,” curated by Eve Ensler and featuring original works by Edwidge Danticat, Asali Devan, Eve Ensler, Lisa Kron, Lynn Nottage, Mary Oliver and Kevin Powell.
Watch the panels from the conference and hear Professor Hill’s original testimony.
