FAST FACT: How many mothers now are in the labor force compared to the 1970s?

I just discovered the awesome section of the BLS website: “People are asking…” I think this may be new favorite thing. The first question featured today, “How many mothers are in the labor force compared to the 1970s?”  Click on the question and you’re taken to a handy-dandy table with more data you could ever wish for.  According to the table, 47.4% of mothers with children under the age of 18 were in the labor force in 1975. That number has risen to 71.2% in 2008.
