NEW MISSING: Information about Adolescent Health

December 2, 2004
On December 1, 2004, Representative Henry Waxman released a report which examined 13 of the most commonly used federally funded abstinence programs and curricula in the United States. According to the report, federally-funded abstinence sex education presents false and misleading information, with 11 of the programs—used by 69 organizations in 25 states—containing “unproven claims, subjective conclusions or outright falsehoods regarding reproductive health, gender traits and when life begins.” Gloria Feldt, president of Planned Parenthood Federation, praised the report, and added that "in fiscal year 2005 the federal government will sink a whopping $170 million into these ideologically driven programs…Congress and the Bush administration are shortchanging the taxpayers and robbing young people of the information they need to make healthy, responsible choices.”
