Supporter Spotlight
Neda Simaika ran in support of the National Council for Research on Women along with four other competitors during the New York City Marathon 2010. She intends to embark on other challenges in 2011 to raise funds for NCRW.
Semaika is a second-time triathlete -- she placed second in her first age-group competition at the "Escape from Ft. Delaware," triathlon in Delaware City, DE, June 2005. Alongside fellow senior high school classmates, Neda thoroughly enjoyed the team-oriented togetherness, grueling challenge and beautiful backdrop of the serendipitous experience -- it all began as creative way for Neda and the girls to study sports' psychology and medicine and fulfill their high school's "Senior Project Requirement."
"In it to win it," this time around, Neda's inspiration is quite different. Throughout her college experience at Cornell and beyond, Neda's search for identity has fostered a deep attachment to the feminist movement. She constantly probes societal norms on the gender roles within her circle of friends, her traditional culture and especially her own life. The very fire that challenged her to train for her second Olympic-Distance triathlon - the New Jersey State Triathlon on July 26 - is now fueling her passion to inspire others to join in helping the feminist cause, by donating, and even participating themselves.
