Lisa Y. Sullivan
Lisa Y. Sullivan is the Founder and President of Local Initiatives, Support, Training and Education Network,
Inc. (LISTEN),a social change organization working with urban youth. She is being honored for her work in
energizing and empowering young people 14-29 years of age and encouraging them to reach their potential as grass
roots leaders. Before establishing LISTEN, she served as Fellowship Development Consultant for the Next Generation
Leadership Program of the Rockefeller Foundation. In 1989, her efforts to organize a citywide voter registration and
education initiative culminated in the election of the city’s first African-American mayor. She has published numerous
articles covering topics, such as, social capital and race relations in national newspapers, magazines and journals. Ms.
Sullivan's leadership has been recognized by the National Urban League, and the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People, and Washingtonian magazine.
