Lateefah Simon
Lateefah Simon, Executive Director of the Center for Young Women's Development in San Francisco, is one
of the nation’s youngest non-profit executive directors. We recognize her for her work with young, “at-risk” women
and for her national advocacy on behalf of youth. At the age of 17, Ms. Simon began working at the Center for
Young Women’s Development, whose mission is to provide previously incarcerated young women with the skills they
need to run a program and assist other young women struggling in the juvenile justice system. She now raises and manages
an organizational budget of nearly half a million dollars and coaches a staff of 15 young women, at the same time balancing
her roles as undergraduate student and parent to a four year old daughter. Ms. Simon is recognized nationally for her ability
to motivate and challenge audiences on issues such as HIV and AIDS, economic equity, and the plight of low-income young
women. She was recently chosen as a member of the Rock the Vote Media Team.
