THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR RESEARCH ON WOMEN TO HONOR SUSAN BERRESFORD; JOHNNETTA COLE; RUBY DEE; PATRICIA FILI-KRUSHEL; AND PATRICIA SCHROEDER AT ITS 4TH ANNUAL WOMEN WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AWARDS DINNER ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2002 AT THE ESSEX HOUSE IN NEW YORK CITY

New York -- On Thursday, February 21, 2002, The National Council for Research on Women (NCRW) will celebrate its 20th Anniversary and honor: Susan V. Berresford, President, The Ford Foundation; Johnnetta B. Cole, former President, Spelman College; Ruby Dee, Actor and Humanist; Patricia Fili-Krushel, Executive Vice President of Administration, AOL Time Warner, Inc.; and Patricia S. Schroeder, former U.S. Representative and current President and CEO, Association of American Publishers.

The Awards Dinner will take place in New York City at The Essex House, 160 Central Park South. Cocktails begin at 6:30pm with Dinner and the Awards at 7:30pm. Event Co-Chairs are: Sara Engelhardt; Janet Holmgren; Donna Shavlik; Joan Steinberg; and Katrina vanden Heuvel. Corporate Co-Chairs are: Roslyn Dickerson, Citigroup; Gerald M. Levin, AOL Time Warner, Inc.; Jacki Hoffman-Zehner and Melinda Wolfe, Goldman, Sachs & Co.; Sunita Holzer, GE Capital; and Wayne Winborne, Prudential. Preceding the Dinner, NCRW will host a panel discussion “Finding Human Security in the 21st Century: A Gendered Perspective” and a tribute to its 20th Anniversary “Celebrating NCRW: 20 Years of Charting the Future.” The program will begin at 3:00pm at Columbia Artists Management Hall, 165 West 57th St. Panelists include: Barbara Crossette, New York Times; Sakiko Fukuda-Parr, U.N. Development Programme; Saskia Sassen, University of Chicago; and Ellie Smeal, The Feminist Majority Foundation.

NCRW is an alliance of 95 leading U.S. women’s research and policy centers involved in scholarship, advocacy, and innovative programming on behalf of women and girls worldwide. NCRW promotes and synthesizes research on significant issues; fosters collaboration across borders of race, nation, generation, gender, and class; and brings accurate information and analysis to the public debate. More than 300,000 individuals from over 80 countries attend NCRW events, use NCRW’s publications and website, and participate in its work each year.
