Opting Different: Reframing the Work/Life Debate

Location: Graduate Center at the City University of New York

Event Date: June 6, 2005

Speakers: Lois Backon, Stewart Friedman, Sylvia Ann Hewlett, Jennifer Tucker

Moderator: Ana Duarte-McCarthy

Points for Action:

  • Establish alternative pathways to power that consider the arc of women’s careers and recognize the dynamic nature of women’s careers.

  • Work toward systemic change in the structure of work, creating policy changes that favor workplace flexibility, that recognize and respect the whole person, and that are cognizant of employee aspirations.

  • Simultaneously address work-life and diversity, for they are inseparable.
