MemoirFest will feature presentations and panel discussions by Debra Gwartney, Crystal Williams, Lidia Yuknavitch, Lauren Kessler, Margarita Donnelly, Elizabeth Reis, and Dominick Vetri. You and other registered participants are invited to take part in roundtable discussions with the panelists on all aspects of memoir.

Chinese Women’s Documentaries in the Market Era will screen and examine important documentary films by Chinese Women directors from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Mainland China. The symposium will feature directors and international scholars who will discuss the role and significance of women’s documentary films in articulating different human concerns, critical visions, and visual aesthetics in the rapidly changing Greater China area. Conversation with Presidents from Mount Holyoke and Amherst College

Date/time: Friday, March 9, 2012 4-7pm

On Friday, March 9 at 4pm in the New York Room of Mary Woolley Hall on the Mount Holyoke College campus in South Hadley, Massachusetts, the FCWSRC will present a conversation between Mount Holyoke College President Lynn Pasquerella and Amherst College President Biddy Martin about writing and the public sphere. It will be followed by a presentation of recent publications by Five College faculty in Gender Studies and FCWSRC Alumnae Associates. A reception follows at 6pm at the FCWSRC.

The event will take place in the Drew Room, Ground Floor at the CCUN building from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, March 5th. Women of color continue to be disproportionately represented in low-wage work. Consequently, they are less likely to have access to paid sick time, family leave, vacation, retirement savings, and other components of the human right to decent work. The panel will feature human rights advocates, economists, and organizers offering concrete human rights-based solutions for advancing economic justice for women, and in particular, women of color in the United States.

In this talk, Dr. Susan Chandler, Professor of Social Work at the University of Nevada, Reno explores the untold stories of women who work in the gaming industry. Chandler's presentation offers a new slant on the dependence of Las Vegas’ (and Nevada’s) economy on women workers.
