Lessons Learned from the Executive Suite: Barriers and Opportunities to Reach the Top

Women leaders at the front line of corporate diversity initiatives will reflect on their successes, the barriers they overcame, and the continuing obstacles to advancing more women and women of color into the leadership pipeline. Panelists will explore their experiences in climbing the career ladder and share insights into the most effective strategies – both personal and institutional – for advancement. They will focus on how to navigate challenges, create strategic partnerships and respond effectively to incentives that maximize success.

Leading corporate executives from different industries and leading researchers will explore strategies and trailblazing steps for advancing women and women of color into leadership positions.

The National Council for Research on Women is partnering with the U.S. National Committee for UNIFEM to bring you a conference designed to build collaborations to understand the intersections between violence against women and girls and key factors such as education, economic security, and health.

The conference will:

  • Convene leaders from research, policy, academic, advocacy, business, and philanthropic communities
  • Identify action steps that focus on comprehensive approaches to end gender-based violence through greater social and economic investments
  • Provide participants with a better understanding of UNIFEM programs and funded projects; and of path breaking research and advocacy and policy initiatives within the NCRW member center network

The global financial crisis begs the question: What if? Many experts are asking if the current situation would look the same if there had been more women in charge of investment decision-making and oversight. The Council’s comprehensive and timely report presents an overview of the latest research into the different investment management styles of women and men, how they approach risk and what the global economy might look like if a critical mass of women were bringing their decision-making talents to the table. It also proposes action steps for advancing women, not only in the financial sector, but across professions and fields in the economy and society.
