CENTER DESCRIPTION
The Department of Women's Studies at The Ohio State University offers an undergraduate major and minor, a master's degree, and a doctorate in women's studies. Courses at the university in women's studies use innovative teaching methods to distribute new scholarship on women and to encourage critical approaches to established knowledge. The purpose of the department is to promote teaching, research, and academic programming on women's issues, feminist perspectives, and gender studies.

RECENT PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES
Peer Education Program. PEER POWER! trains and enables undergraduate students to present gender-related topics to teens in local schools and youth groups.
NEW Leadership Ohio educates and empowers college women to take on public leadership roles by going through training in a state-wide weeklong residential summer institute.
Curriculum Development
National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute for Teachers, to be held July 2000.
Reading Women's Lives: An Interdisciplinary Introduction to Women's Studies is a database of more than 260 articles about teaching introductory level women's studies. The project will allow instructors to create their own textbooks.
