CENTER DESCRIPTION

Established in 1991, the Chicana/Latina Research Center encourages and supports scholarship on Chicana/Latina issues, including the development of theory, methodology, and pedagogy pertinent to Chicanas/Latinas in contemporary society. One of their main goals is to support research projects of UC Davis faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, and staff related to Chicanas, Latinas, and indigenous women through seminars, colloquia, information/cultural programs and workshops. C/LRC is the only research unit in the US devoted exclusively to the development of Chicana/Latina scholars and researchers.

RECENT PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

* Cultural, racial, religious and ethnic diversity

Support for Research Clusters: In 2002-2003, the C/LRC initiated a funding program in support of multi/interdisciplinary research clusters which promote critical and creative dialogue on themes that broaden understandings of Chicana and Latina identities and representations in contemporary society.

*Education

Summer Policy Training Institute Annual Conference at George Washington University, Washington, DC: Last year, the C/LRC center allocated funds to cover transportation costs for two Latina/Chicana undergraduate students to attend the Annual Conference, providing an opportunity for the students to research policy issues at the local level, with an emphasis on community concerns and mechanisms for addressing them.

*Grants and Scholarship

Annual Dissertation Fellowship: Fellowship awarded by C/LRC through a national competition; allows a Fellow to teach one undergraduate upper division seminar during her fellowship year.

Campus-based Collaborative and Individual Research Grant Programs in Chicana/Latina Studies: Grants given by C/LRC to individual faculty and graduate students who research issues important to the Chicana/Latina community.

*Immigration

Latino/a Citizenships Collaborative Project: The goal of the project is to establish an educational model that specializes on the subject of Latina/Latino citizenships to a range of constituencies, including but not limited to undergraduates, graduate students, professionals, members of the (global) community at large and policy makers.
