CENTER DESCRIPTION
The Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women was founded at Brown University in 1981 as a center for interdisciplinary research on gender and society. It hosts postdoctoral fellows and faculty affiliates from across the country and around the world to its annual research seminary, which address gender issues from cross-cultural and theoretical perspectives. The Pembroke Center is also the home of Brown University's Gender Studies Program and is affiliated with The Sarah Doyle Women's Center.

RECENT PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES
Research support. The Pembroke Center supports a number of activities designed to support women's studies research at the university. These include, but are not limited to, an annual research seminar, hosting postdoctoral fellows, a visiting scholars' lecture series, faculty fellowships, and roundtable conferences.
The Christine Dunlap Farnham Archives and John Hay Library. The archives chronicle the history of women at Brown University and Pembroke College, of Brown alumnae, and of women in Rhode Island. The collections of the John Hay Library include manuscripts, oral history tapes, organizational records, photographs, rare books, ephemera, and the records of Pembroke College, the women's college in the university. The collections are especially strong in the areas of women's higher education, literature, and social history.
