CENTER DESCRIPTION

The Institute for Gender and Women's Studies at Aichi Shukutoku University seeks to engage researchers, students, and local citizens by providing opportunities for the interchange and dissemination of information. Its goals are to encourage the reevaluation of the roles assigned to women and men in society and to gather information on gender-based discrimination worldwide. It provides information on the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women, international conferences on women, and NGO forums. The Institute also offers access to a variety of print and online information networks through its campus office. In addition, it sponsors international symposia and seminars, grants resource loans, facilitates reading services, and facilitates exchange programs with overseas scholars. Aichi Shukutoku University was the first co-educational university in Japan to establish an institute for research in women's and gender studies.
