2 New York Openings- Research Intern and Information Center Intern

Catalyst is the leading nonprofit membership organization working to build inclusive workplaces and expand opportunities for women and business. Catalyst's Research Department is responsible for formulating, conducting, and publishing cutting-edge studies and practical guides to the retention, development, and advancement of women in business. Catalyst’s knowledge comprises more than four decades of groundbreaking research and consulting experiences on issues relating to women’s advancement in business and the professions.

Interns who work for Catalyst’s Research Department will gain in-depth training and valuable experience in a variety of tasks relevant to advancing women and building inclusive environments.

How Would I Support the Team? 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Work on 50th Anniversary tasks related to Catalyst Award, including but not limited to: 
    • Research current state of previous Catalyst Award winning-organizations and initiatives.
    • Seek approval for all previous winner logos.
    • Brainstorm ideas for 50th Anniversary celebration.
    • Develop materials for 50th Anniversary celebration.
  • Fact-check Catalyst Award timeline on public website.
  • Help create Award FAQ.
  • Assist Research team with project work, as available and applicable.

Interns will work directly with full-time staff and managers, who will supervise, train, and observe their work efforts and tasks. 

What Is the Schedule? 

The length of the internship and weekly work schedule are flexible, and interns may work from home for certain tasks. Virtual interns will also be considered.

What Are the Requirements? 

Interns are required to have basic to intermediate skills in web research, an understanding of general research principles, strong attention to detail, and some writing experience. Interns must be motivated, possess initiative and a sense of urgency, be technologically savvy, and be able to work independently. Though welcome, previous research and/or corporate work experience is not required and on-the-job training will be provided as part of the internship. This internship is unpaid and open only to those students seeking credit for an internship.

Department: Information Center
Reports to: Senior Associate Librarian

Responsibilities

Catalyst seeks a student in need of credit in a Master of Library Science (MLS) program for an unpaid internship in its Information Center (IC). The IC provides a variety of services, with librarians responding daily to requests from Catalyst members, academic and nonprofit organizations, professional associations, researchers, writers, and the media.

The intern will work on various tasks, including the following:

  • Contributing to research projects regarding gender diversity in business.
  • Cataloging articles and reports using modified MARC formatting for the IC catalog.
  • Developing and updating Quick Takes, statistically based overviews of topics such as women in the labor force, women of color, work/life balance, and working mothers.
  • Assisting librarians in answering reference questions.

Requirements

The length of the internship and the weekly schedule are flexible. The intern may work from home on certain tasks. A virtual arrangement will also be considered. The intern should have an understanding of library functions and have taken at least one class in cataloging and reference. He or she must be motivated, technologically savvy, and able to work independently. Previous library experience, although welcome, is not required, and training will be provided.
