Internship - Marketing Intern, Girl Scout Brand Marketing
Summary of Position
The Marketing and Communications department is responsible for Girl Scouts of the USA’s brand, communications, publishing, marketing, and web-based initiatives. We also play a key role in ensuring a comprehensive media and communications strategy is in place to support the organization's larger strategic priorities. The intern will have a unique opportunity to learn about the Girl Scout brand through projects involving grassroots marketing, information referral, and campaign management. She/he will work alongside the marketing team to provide support, insight, and great ideas! The intern will gain experience in all aspects of brand marketing, including creating and executing marketing initiatives that support the Girl Scout mission: building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Responsibilities
• Provide customer service to Girl Scout councils
• Provide general assistance with marketing activities
• Assist in the development and trafficking of marketing creative
• Assist in the analysis and reporting of campaign effectiveness
Job Qualifications
• Solid background in marketing through college studies or experience, and an understanding of brand management
• Knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, blogs, and Twitter, and a solid understanding of how to leverage online communities to increase brand awareness and attract target audiences
• Team player with initiative, curiosity, a drive to learn, and a passion for marketing
• Excellent written and oral communications skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Able to meet deadlines and think innovatively (the more ideas, the better!)
• Current college student majoring in marketing or similar field, with an interest in gaining on-the-job work experience
Hours: 20–30 per week (flexible)
Duration: June 6th, 2011 to August 12, 2011 (Flexible)
Stipend: $1,500
Location: New York City

Internship - Assistant Buyer Intern, Girl Scout Merchandising
Summary of Position
Girl Scout Merchandising (GSM) develops all categories of products sold to 300 council-operated shops, outside retailers, and customers through the online shop. The Merchandising department is located at national headquarters, where staff interacts with Program, Membership, Marketing, and Global, as well as other departments, in order to successfully create product for our membership base.
The intern will work as Assistant Buyer for GSM. Under the guidance of the merchandise manager, she/he will be exposed to the complete merchandising process and daily responsibilities that go into managing a wholesale, catalog, and retail business. This entails product development in diverse product categories including apparel, stationary, accessories, jewelry, patches, gift-wear items, uniforms, and earned awards. The intern will be actively involved, attending meetings regarding product selection and development, working with vendors, conducting business analysis, and handling some clerical responsibilities. There will be opportunities to interact with other departments including Inventory, Sales, Customer Service, Headquarters Shop, and outside vendors.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in vendor communications regarding product development and pricing, sample requests, and other business issues via e-mail and phone
• Input into product development concepts based on knowledge of current fashion and business trends
• Assist in the sample approval process
• Prepare information and samples for various meetings as necessary; may include making presentation boards, organizing samples, and setting up spread sheets
Job Qualifications
• College student majoring in fashion merchandising or similar field, with an interest in gaining on-the-job work experience
• Highly motivated self-starter; strong team player
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Solid computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Hours: 20-30 hours per week (Flexible)
