The George Mason University, Department of Sociology and Anthropology announces a tenure-track opening for an Assistant Professor of Anthropology beginning in the fall semester of the 2012-13 academic year.

Ethnographic area and topical specialty should complement those of other members of the program. Areas of particular interest to the program include, but are not limited to: anthropology of media; anthropology of environment; anthropology of public policy; and legal anthropology, with special attention to conceptualizing these fields in the context of transnational and global processes. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a productive research and publication trajectory, based on their scholarly and ethnographic fields.

The successful candidate must be competent to teach an introductory cultural anthropology course, as well as advanced courses in ethnographic methods and anthropological theory. The successful applicant is also expected to teach and participate in the graduate anthropology program. Our undergraduate program includes offerings in all four fields of anthropology with many opportunities for collaboration across subdisciplines. Our graduate program offers a master's degree with emphasis upon advanced training in sociocultural anthropology; culture, health and bioethics; and transnational and global issues.

The successful candidate must have teaching experience and Ph.D. in-hand at time of application. Women and minority candidates especially are urged to apply.

The teaching load for this position is 2/2, with a starting salary of $55,000.
